Prologue
Nestled in the heart of Kahaluʻu is an oasis filled with Nature’s art, composed of her unique flora, and man’s art, creative compositions emanating from human minds and hearts and crafted by hand. True art is the physical manifestation of the artist’s soul and reflects that artist’s perspective on life and society. Artists evoke emotions such as angst, rage, sadness, as well as tranquility and joy, and capture those emotions in their work. Art speaks to us, moves us, convicts us, inspires us.
Kahaluʻu Gallery and Gardens offers art in a variety of medium, including oil paintings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures, and jewelry. Our gallery strives to harmonize the old with the new, blend tradition with innovation, and inspire all generations to embrace themselves as sentient creatures. As you stroll through the art gallery and surrounding lush grounds, we invite you to envision the stories behind every brush stroke and crafted piece of art, feel the beauty of nature around you, and open your heart to the art that speaks to your soul.
History
Hiroshi's Hybrid Ti
The property, formerly known as Tagami and Powell Gallery and Gardens, evolved from a barren plot of overgrown grass and weeds to today’s meticulously manicured garden and tropical forest. While changes have been made since the days Hiroshi Tagami first wielded his tools and created the original gallery and gardens, many of the same plants handpicked and crossbred by Hiroshi, such as his patented pink anthuriums, ti leaves, and daylilies, continue to thrive.
Kahaluʻu Gallery & Gardens also maintains a modest memorial documenting highlights of Hiroshi Tagami’s life to honor him for the invaluable contributions he made to the gallery and gardens as well as to the world. Hiroshi’s legacy lives on in the beauty he captured on canvas and cultivated in the gardens and our hope is that it inspires future generations to pursue their passions and create from their hearts.
